Reading recovery
Turvey Park has a specially trained Reading Recovery teacher who works one-on-one with targeted Year 1 students. Reading Recovery is an intensive literacy program where students work with the teacher for 30 minutes a day for a period of 12 – 20 weeks. The program's goal is to bring students up to the average of the class in reading and writing.
Best start
Best Start is a NSW government initiative to ensure our youngest students are on track in literacy and numeracy. During the Best Start Kindergarten Assessment, teachers have the opportunity to observe and record the knowledge, skills and understandings that children in Kindergarten bring to school in literacy and numeracy to inform the development of quality teaching and learning programs. It enables them to provide parents with feedback on what their child can do, and how they can best support their child's learning.
Tournament of minds
Turvey Park regularly supports teams of students participating in TOM. Tournament of Minds is for students with a passion for learning and problem solving to demonstrate their skills and talents in an exciting, vibrant and public way. TOM aims to enhance the potential of youth by developing diverse skills, enterprise, time management, and discipline to work collaboratively within a challenging and competitive environment. Students can participate in Applied Technology, Language Literature, Maths Engineering or Social Sciences.
Peer support
Each year Turvey Park implements the Peer Support program. Peer Support is a social skills program where older students are trained to lead and support small groups of younger students.
